Cameras
The starting point for any CCTV system must be the camera. The camera creates the picture that will be transmitted to the control position. Apart from special designs CCTV cameras are not fitted with a lens. The lens must be provided separately and screwed onto the front of the camera. There is a standard screw thread for CCTV cameras, although there are different types of lens mounts.
Not all lenses have focus and iris adjustment. Most have iris adjustment. Some very wide angle lenses do not have a focus ring. The 'BNC' plug is for connecting the coaxial video cable. Line powered cameras do not have the mains cable.

Digital Video Recorder (DVR):
A simple cctv system for monitoring only purposes does not require a DVR, this unit comes into two different types (Standalone or PC Based)
The different between both is that Standalone is running a Linux based operating system which is well known of its stability and having the necessary inputs and outputs built-in on the motherboard, while the PC Based is compromising of a regular comptuer CPU or desktop workstation with an external rugged design for rack mounting and running Windows operating system, this units helps for extension since it can have up to 6 x 8 inputs cards so basically it is allowing future scalability.
A DVR commonly records all data on internal or external H.D.D where you can have the data there from 1 day and up to the whole year depending on the capacity you chose.
